Dr. Luz Longsworth holds a Doctorate in Business Administration in Higher Education Management from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and French (First Class Hons.), a Master of Business Administration (Marketing) degrees from the University of the West Indies (Mona), and a Master of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies from Queenβs University, Ontario, Canada. Her research and practice have focused on Virtual Leadership in Higher Education, Leadership Development, Women in Leadership, and Organisational Transformation and Change.
Dr. Longsworth has held senior leadership roles in university teaching and leadership as well as in the private sector in the areas of Manufacturing and Financial Services in Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and Belize. After a stellar career of nearly 30 years at the University of the West Indies where she completed her tenure in 2021 as Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the UWI Open Campus and Global Affairs, she joined the Sandals Resorts International team in 2022 as Senior Corporate Director for the Sandals Corporate University where she oversees the training and development of over 20,000 team members located in nine Caribbean countries. Over the past 20 years, she has also participated in, and led consultancies across the region and in the UK, working with international and regional organisations and Companies such as Ernst and Young (Caribbean), Unicomer (Courts) Belize, The Leadership Foundation (UK), Fortis Belize, the Development Bank of Jamaica, among others.
Keenly community oriented, Dr. Longsworth has worked with at risk youths in Western Jamaica, Belize, Barbados and the British Virgin Islands, as well as serves on the boards of several regional, international and community-based organizations. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the University of Belize, a member of the Board of the Montego Bay Community College and an Honorary Fellow of the Vancouver based Commonwealth of Learning (COL). As a founding member of COLβs Commonwealth Wise Women initiative, she has been involved in mentoring young women across the Commonwealth and has a passion for training and coaching emerging leaders.
